$448,000 for Erosion Control
The Sault Ste. Marie Conservation Authority is receiving $448,000 to improve flood control infrastructure.
The funding comes from the provincial government’s Water and Erosion Control Infrastructure Program and will be used for the Conservation Authority’s Water and Erosion Control Infrastructure Program.
The money will be used to pay for three projects, including the Fort Creek channel bank stability enhancement ($37,500), the Fort Creek channel remediation and sediment removal ($30,000), and for repairs to the East Davignon aqueduct, underneath Farwell Terrace ($381,000).
Linda Whalen, conservation authority manager, said the work has already been completed on all three projects.
The city matched the province’s funding to complete the work.
“This investment will help the Sault Ste. Marie Conservation Authority carry out projects to help maintain existing dams and flood control channels,” said Sault MPP David Orazietti in a press release.
Since 2004, the conservation authority has received more than $3 million from the province for source water protection planning and infrastructure.
