Landfill Cover

landfill cover is the intermediate cover which is placed as the landfill progresses. The landfill cover is typically used to keep odor down and animals out of the landfill. DCI is looking to change that. DCI has the technology that will allow for building a permanent impermeable layer each time the cover is placed.

The landfill cover consist of soils which are often times not usable as a cap due to the fact that they are too permeable. This high permeability allows for water to drain into the cavity of the landfill and create more leachate than is necessary. By treating the landfill cover as it is being placed the landfill cover starts to aid in keeping the leachate to a minimum.

So often you will read that the leachate of a local landfill is leaking into the water table and the problem is with the base liner. Well that is fine but the real problem is that rain water is being allowed to enter the containment area of the solid waste and the end result is heavy leachate. At DCI we plan to change that with the implementation of a continuous cap system which turns the once unimportant landfill cover into an incremental capping system.

By simply spraying the cover soil with Terra Seal Xtream (TSX)
when it is placed,  you create an impermeable layer that protects the solid waste below and reduces the leachate production significantly. This practice alone could save a landfill millions of dollars a year in leachate processing. it will also aid in the control of odors as the landfill progresses.

Often times the local soil is disregarded as usable simply due to the fact that it will not meet the permeability requirements. DCI is able to take the "un-suitable" soils and modify them to exceed the requirements for a landfill cover. DCI has been enhancing soils to meet permeability requirements for years. A typical soil can be enhanced to exceed the 1 x 10-6 cm/sec requirements of the average landfill cap.

Landfill Cover

Simply by using a material that would normally be regarded as un-suitable, and enhancing it with Terra Seal Xtream (TSX)
, we are able to enhance the soil permeability coefficient beyond the requirements set by the EPA and the landfill cap guidelines. Note the smaller the column in the graph, the less water will be allowed to penetrate the soil and further less water will penetrate the landfill cover. .
