Asphalt Emulsion Coating
Top-Seal Asphalt Emulsion Coating (TSAEC) is a black liquid single-component polymer composition that is designed primarily as a cold-applied hardening agent for creating a durable wearing surface over soil bases for roadways, parking lots, and air fields that have been stabilized with Top-Seal Liquid Soil Sealant and Stabilizer. When properly applied as directed, TSAEC will form a thin coating over a road base that is rapidly transformed into a hardened independent surface capable of withstanding all types of traffic conditions. In order to promote the best possible efficiency of TSAEC, it is very important to ensure that a soil base has been first treated with the Top-Seal stabilizer prior applying the TSAEC. The product is not recommended for use with roads that have not been properly stabilized.Generally, it is recommended that TSAEC is applied within 24 hours after application with the stabilizer. The product can be poured or sprayed into a thin film that will subsequently seek to fill any cracks or deformities in the road surface. It will ultimately level itself into a thin smooth surface that will be traffic ready within two to three hours (depending on the ambient temperature)
The amount of TSAEC recommended per square yard is .12 to .18 gallons per square meter, depending on anticipated traffic weight and densities. After the product is applied as a road coating and has completely hardened (polymerized), a thin membrane coating is created; thereby, preventing penetration of water and gases (including ozone) into the road pavement. The road is further protected from ultraviolet and infrared solar radiation as well as various other types of chemicals.
TSAEC does not contain solvents and does not cause damage to roads or vehicles. The product allows for an increase in road friction for rubber tires by about 20 to 30% and thereby considerably shortens the braking distance. Most importantly, TSAEC helps promote a general improvement in traffic safety. Overall, TSAEC is an excellent companion product with Top-Seal Liquid Soil Sealant and Stabilizer. The combination of the two products is one of the best and most cost efficient methods of building durable and long lasting roads at a time when budgetary constraints are extremely challenged.
